how the service works

A practical NHS route for minor illness care

Pharmacy First is designed to improve access to care for patients with certain common conditions. Instead of waiting for a GP appointment, eligible patients can be seen by a community pharmacist for assessment, advice, and treatment where clinically appropriate.

Our role is to listen carefully, check symptoms against NHS service criteria, and make sure you get the safest next step. If Pharmacy First is not the right route for your symptoms, we will explain what to do next and where to seek further support.

What to expect at your visit

  • A confidential conversation with the pharmacy team
  • Questions about symptoms, duration, medicines, and allergies
  • Clear advice on treatment, self-care, and warning signs
  • Referral to another NHS service if symptoms need escalation
